Custom Steam Showers

If you think a custom steam shower is purely a luxury amenity, think again.

Steam showers provide both health and cost benefits. Steam provides natural detoxification that
removes harmful impurities from your body, providing symptom relief of colds, flu, sinusitis,
bronchitis, allergies, asthma, throat irritation, arthritis and more. Additional health benefits
include improved circulation, post-work out recovery, relief from stiffness and joint pain, skin
care, cardiovascular health, increased metabolism and stress management.
Steam showers are also eco-friendly, potentially saving homeowners water and energy. A 30-
minute steam shower uses only 2 gallons of water, opposed to 16 gallons used for an average 8-
minute standard shower. Luxury amenities like steam showers may also see a return on
investment at time of resale.

“All of our clients who install steam showers are super happy,” said Kamil Suran, who owns
Suran Built. “They always say the whole family enjoys using it. It’s one of the nice things you
can add when remodeling a bathroom.”

“One of the main benefits is that you can use a steam shower for aromatherapy,” Suran said.
“You mix essential oils with the steam.” That option can be done with a special pump that mixes
the oil with the steam, or by simply applying a few drops of oil to a tray in the steam head.
Additional features include custom seating, music and mood lighting.

A steam shower requires floor-to-ceiling tile to keep the steam enclosed. Suran recommends
porcelain tile that holds up well to steam over the years, as opposed to marble, which deteriorates
over time. In planning for a steam shower, homeowners also need to consider additional
electrical and water supply lines, as well as room for a steam generator.

Steam showers are more than just a luxury amenity. They can be an effective means to improve
health and wellbeing, allowing you to live a more active lifestyle.
