PORTLAND, Ore. – A new live music venue is coming to the Lloyd Center, according to Live Nation Entertainment.
The live entertainment company made the announcement Wednesday.
The new venue will be located on the top floor of the former Nordstrom building at the Lloyd Center. A box office will be on the first floor.
KATU reported on the possible opening last October when HOB Rose City Corp. filed for a liquor license for a “Rose City Music Hall” at the address of the former Nordstrom department store.
Live Nation says the venue will reflect “the unique culture and diversity within the community and Portland.” It will feature state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology, unmatched VIP amenities, communal bars and lounge areas for pre-and-post event dining.
“This is the first step in Lloyd Center’s evolution to become a true lifestyle, entertainment center,” said Bob Dye, general manager at Lloyd Center. “Our restaurants and retailers are thrilled about the thousands of concertgoers who will walk by their stores every day.”
The mall recently completed Phase One of a multi-million-dollar renovation project with the completion of a new food court, overhaul of the ice rink and a remodeled spiral staircase.
Phase Two is expected to cost around $120 million and includes not only renovating the building that Live Nation will use but also relocates movie theaters from their location south of the mall onto the mall property itself.
New residential housing is planned for the property where the movie theaters are now.
The Lloyd Center is considering creating an entertainment wing for people of all ages to enjoy.
“You innovate or you die. I don’t mean to sound so serious but you need to innovate, you need to be willing and able to change as your market changes and demands for different services and wants and needs change,” said Dye.
There’s no word on when work on the music venue will be completed.
