Home Construction & Remodeling : How to Install Drapes

Hi I'm Tim Gipson, I'm going to talk to you about how to install drapes Now when you get ready to install your drapes, you're going to need a drill, some anchors, probably a Phillips head screwdriver and of course a tape measure

Now when we've chosen our curtains, most curtains are 84 inches in length and when we install the curtains, what we want to do is we want to make sure that the bottom of the curtain is flush with the floor The only exception to that would be sheers, with sheers we usually let them pool on the floor a little bit so that's going to affect your measurements as far as your attach points Now these particular drapes here have a grommet So what we want to do is we want to measure from the top of the curtain to the center of the grommet In this case, it's an inch and three quarters

So by that, I know that the center of this rod that holds this curtains up needs to be 81 and a quarter inches off the floor And what I've done is I've taken the, or excuse me, 82 and a quarter, what I've done is I've taken the 84 inches, I've deducted an inch and a quarter and that's how I come up with 82 and a quarter So knowing that I've got to be 82 and a quarter off the center of this, then I can transfer the center of this to the bracket and in this case, on this bracket just happens to be this top attach point So that's how I would locate my first hole, I would locate it at 82 and a quarter inches off the floor and then I would measure the distance between the other attach point, the other screw hole on the bracket, mark that, transfer that dimension to the wall, drill my hole there Now if you hit studs and what I recommend is using a small drill bit see if you hit any studs, because if you hit studs, then you can just screw the bracket right into the studs

If you don't happen to hit studs, then you want to take a larger bit that's recommended for an anchor and actually put anchors in there to hold your bracket securely So basically if you just get your dimensions down right and locate your brackets right, then drapes are pretty easy to install I'm Tim Gipson in how to install drapes
